On this weeks journey, we are traveling with a show titled, “SILENCE and GIVING; Quotes by Dr. Charles Alexander Eastman”
Dr. Charles Alexander Eastman was born on February 19, 1858 near what is now Redwood Falls, Minnesota and entered the Spiritual World on January 8, 1939 in Detroit Michigan. Charles Alexander Eastman was born Hakadah and later named Ohiyesa was Santee Dakota. He was a physician, writer, and social reformer. He was the first Native Individual to be certified in Western Medicine and was one of the most prolific authors and speakers of Dakota ethnohistory and American Indian Affairs. After working as a physician on reservations in South Dakota, He became active in politics and Native American Rights. He worked to improve the lives of youth and founded thirty-five Native American chapters of the YMCA. He was considered the Native Individual to write American History for the Native point of view. He also helped found the Boy Scouts of America.
